Yep, we have that problem. I personally go by the philosophy of

I don't have to out run the bear, I only have to out run YOU!

As long as it is more convenient for the little ****S to vandalise somewhere else then they will leave the allotments alone. We managed to get a big fence put up around the entrence by the council which helps a bit. All sheds and greenhouses it is advisable to put at the back of plots.

Grow spikey plants around the edges of your plot so that their trendy clothes will be damaged and they'll get told off by their mums.

Lobby parliament for a bill allowing the use of air weapons against vandals. Ok I don't mean it.
first there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is

Namby pamby left wing liberals.. what's wrong with hidden stake filled pits, razor wire and anti-personnel mines? Bring back hanging, I say - and drawing and quatering.

Problem seems to be geting the police to take it seriously.  An alternative approach, that I love the theory of, is to involve local children. They know the bad 'uns and will persuade them to stop or maybe shop them.

I noticed an allotment in Liverpool left the sheds unlocked - because the thieves caused less damage that way and one chap hid his tools behind a false wall. Sad reflection on society.

Do remember that if you catch one of the little 'persons' you can end up in real trouble with the law if you give vent to your feelings. So wear a balaclava :)

You could plant the small ones under a grapevine. The larger ones will need cutting up.

Does anyone know if you can still buy dried blood? I've not seen it anywhere for ages. I used to always give my sweetcorn a teaspoon each and got great results.

You can get dried blood, I got some from wyvale(sp?) this year but it only came in small 500g packs. I find it smells quite disgusting once its wet.

Thanks Jake -
Celtic, I'm pretty sure the nanny state would rather we all shopped at the supermarket and paid taxes.
I heard that the average allotment saves 2000 pounds a year in vegetable purchases.  The more we do for ourselves, the less economically active we are,
I'll take a look around for dried blood again now I know it can be had.

Have you thought of a shredder..... will get blood and bone nicely mixed together that way! and if there is a sprayer attachment all well and good.... save a lot of work, can treat a few allotments that way at the same time :)
