Ok then my earlys are flowering and it wont be too long before they are dug up but what do you plant in the space thats left behind??

Ive not really though this through and have just realised I am going to have a big empty bed left shortly ::)

Ah but what was in the bed before the tatties my dear. This is going to influence what you do next.

I've got the same problem - had salad stuff in the patch last season.

Could do with some suggestions too.

You beat me to it, Garddwr, leeks are often a suggestion to follow on from early spuds
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

There was nothing in the bed before the spuds as the ground was fallow for about 3 years before i got it!

I dont like cabbage or cauls and the sweetcorn is in another bed at the moment.  Perhaps I should just put some green manure on it for now?

Don't you like leeks then min200? Or you could put pumpkin or courgette in, or some french beans, Autumn King carrots or beetroot, probably even just time for a sowing of early variety of peas for harvest september, or if they don't crop just dig them in :)

Lik Yorkie and  garddwr I'm going for leeks too -- a kind person is sending me some as mine have failed under the rocket  ::)

I do like leeks and am trying to germinate some at the moment but they really are not doing too well :(  The soil is rubbish as well, very heavy clay, and I though some green manure would help out????

Liking this idea a lot  :D
When did you harvest them? Did you have to cloche the plants later in the season? Sorry for the questions but I would like to know what I am letting myself in for if I do this  -- I have more 'spud space' than I will need for leeks

Another vote for Leaks, mine are in a deepish container and growing up whilst the tatties grow, if I have timed it right, they will be about pencil size just at Potato harvest time.

Do a search on Leak growing, there is at least one thread on sowing them individually in deep containers.
