Un-hardening plants?
« on: May 25, 2009, 19:29 »
Hi

I have some cucumbers and tomoatoes outside and they are growing slowly, they have been outside for a good few weeks and seem healthy.
Is is popssible to put them inside a greenhouse for a few weeks to give them a boost and then bring them back out once they are bigger?

Would they be scorched or fair badly for going into the hot greenhouse?

Hi Rowan
I would bring the cucumbers into the greenhouse and leave them in. If you have space in your greenhouse for the toms, I would also bring them in and leave them in! I have grown toms outside but get better results in the greenhouse. Do you have plans for the greenhouse later in the season?

The problem is its not my greenhouse!!

The house next to us is vacant and the land owner said i can use the greenhouse, problem is if anyone moves in i may have to move the plants out again....

ahh! I suggest leaving them outside then, in a sunny sheltered spot. No point in moving them once they are settled (especially toms as that need staking for support when they are mature). Why not use the grenhouse to bring on extra seedlings? They will be easier to move as well.
