Tomato leaves
« on: May 22, 2009, 20:08 »
I have just put my tomatoes out into the greenhouse and potted them up into their final pots - but some of the leaves are whitish - looking scorched.  Other leaves and stems are quite purply.  Am I right to think that the former is scorch and the latter a magnesium deficiency.  What else could it be.  I have  seen better specimens!  Shall I start again?

Take the toms out of direct sunlight and put them in a shady spot for a few days to recover, but still have them outside. Then give them an hour of dappled sunlight for the next few days. After that they should have adapted. I usually ignore the purply stems until after the plant gets a foothold in the final beds and then address any problems. To feed the plant now will put too much stress on it as it recovers from the sun scalding.
