Onions with lots of green
« on: May 20, 2009, 17:22 »
Hi folks, I noticed last night that my onion sets are looking very green heavy. So much so that they are lolling around instead of perking upright. Could this be because I planted them into soil that had been manured over the winter? Too much nitrogen in the soil?

Thanks

Possible but more likely they weren't planted deep enough for the roots to grab in deeply. suggest you hill them up a bit and firm it. That should sort it out.

Did anyone get a blackadder flash back when reading "lots of green" or was it just  me?

Might be just you. Sets usually, not always, refers to full onions rather than multipliers or bunching onions.
