HOW MUCH ARE ALLOTMENTS
Can someone give me a rough idea of how much allotment plots are per year and how big they are.

Thanks.

I think it depends on where you live. I have just been allocated a plot & mine is £28 per year for a 5 pole plot. It's not huge (1/2 an ordinary plot) but big enough for me as a beginner

I'm in Birmingham so pay £24 for a plot that's roughly 10m x 30m, including water, although using hosepipes is banned, apart from to fill your bath/water butt.  If I pay promptly I get a £3 discount.

Thats quite a good discount - it all helps - will you be affected by the post the NICK.STONE has posted above from the local paper?

I have posted this bit of info before, but:

“1 rod = 5.5 yards or 5.092 metres depending on your preference.

A standard 10 rod plot would therefore be approximately 11 yards (10 metres) wide by 28 yards (25 metres) long (or dimensions that are equal to this in area).”

This costs about £30 for me, but I got it half price as it was overgrown – saved £15 for six months effort – a long way off minimum wage I think!

I have paid £46.93  this year (April 09 - March 10) for my plot which is 207 square meters.
This includes water, i am lucky as i have a tap at each end of the plot. 8)
No such thing as a bad beer, its just some are better than others.

Up here in South Shields its £85.05 for 285squ metres. I have had the plot just over a year and i am still clearing the plot of rubbish, do not get no help or discount.

Yikes! That sounds pricey. I've not got a plot yet, but I applied online to Sefton council and got a letter saying my name is on the waiting list and they charge £29 for 200sq yrd plot and £31 for 300sq yrd plot per year.

Yes looking at what everyone else is paying it’s quite a bit. We do get water and a security fence and we get a small skip once every month.

by the looks of things we do quite well here in north Liverpool. we can have sheds, use as much water as we like, have a good security fence around the perimeter and every so often the council drops a lorry load of surplus compost or wood chippings at the gate end and we can help ourselves.

All for £30
