Thanks for the replies. I havent planted sweetcorn this year, too much effort and little reward. I'll try poison and traps, see if I can get the numbers down but I'm not wasting good chocolate on them! I've been given one of those sonic things, the sound might keep them away but knowing my luck the rats n mice will just dance to the tune  ::)

Ingenious, determined little (?) bu**ers, rats! My mother remembers seeing rats working together to steal eggs when she was a kid in Somerset (long ago). One rat held the egg on its stomach while the other one pulled the first rat along by its tail out under the wire-netting!!

Takes some believing but she is generally a person who does not tell porkies!

Its the sort of thing one would see while lying on the ground after a lotttttt of scrumpy  :D :D :D

Good air rifle, traps, jack russel or a very nasty ferret.

When I was a boy my brother kept and worked ferrets. He had one in particular called Sid. He ( Sid ) was huge! Way to big to put down a rabbit hole so the bold Sidney was used for Rats. He hated them and worked with unbounding vigor to eradicate any that he could "ferret" out. Sidney was a famouse ferret, the gardeners, pidgeon fanciers and anyone with a shed loved him. He was great with kids, people, cats and dogs but he drew the line with Rats......I'll get ma coat ::)

dont waste money on those sonic things for any animal.buy a house next to a busy road and u soon dont notice the traffic noise....same applies to rodents and scarers.

christ! something else to defend against  :(

My neighbour had his fishing gear tucked in the rafters of his garage. They managed to climb up the walls and nibble through it..  very industrious are Mickey's ;)

I took home a mouse in my fishing tackle bag once hehehehe my mum went mad.
Thanks
Kris

chocolate is cheaper than poison and more effective, just melt a little on to the plate of a fen trap, they cant resist it . I say melt because they will get the choco without setting off the trap if it is not attached ,and if you use cadburys then you wont be wasting good chocolate
