I find if I go into their run and start doing a few chores, sweeping floor or coop they all come to see what I'm up to, they really are very nosy  :D

Got lots of landing nets but i have found that a foot diameter kiddies pond dipping net is far better as its smaller, lighter and altogether more manouverable.
The average chook fits in no probs.

If I need to handle mine I do it just after they have gone to bed as they are already captive and dopey. Am I wrong to do this?

no not wrong at all, in fact they probably appreciate it far more then being chased around the run when they're fully awake!

I can recommend the use of a carp landing net too.
Mine must have saved me miles of trudging round and round in circles chasing laughing chickens.
Mind you, it goes get me a few odd looks at the local pond when I land a fish that leaves feathers in the net.

I just grab mine as they come out in the morning from the shed through the poop hole... or in the evening give them some corn and then you can pick them up as they are ready for bed...... :) 8)
