Pentland Javelin earlies???
« on: May 16, 2009, 14:58 »
I got some of these and 'chitted' them in my shed along with some sprint earlies, I then planted them at my allotment all on the same day.  The sprints have now come through and have plenty of leaves whereas the PJ's are still to protrude through the soil.  Does anyone know if soemthing has gone wrong?
First year of getting anything in my lottie so still learning loads.

Cheers,

Stu

Hi Stu... my PJ's are the same... really growing a lot slower than the maincrop of Maris piper's that I have in... and they were both planted at the same time. I'm not sure what the answer is but i' sure someone will be along shortly to help  :D

Mine seem to be doing well and have flower buds now, despite the marauding foxes digging around and snapping some of the others right off  :tongue2:

They did get watered along the trenches a couple of times, and have good frost protection --- I am much futher south however.

Why don't you ferret around and see what's happening?  :nowink:

Planted mine late March, same time as the Swift.

The Swift were first, (hence the name no doubt), but the PJ's were only about a week behind.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Might have to get my hand down in the soil and see if they're doing anything or just sat there thinking about popping up! Mine were planted first week of April all with decent chits on them so don't know really.
Just planted some maincrop desiree's, I bet they come before the PJ's!
Thanks for replies.

Haven't been down the Lottie today, but I planted Charlotte/PJ & Desiree all 3rd week March, and I noticed the Desiree seemed well ahead last week.
