What makes you think you are late?  Yes some people have planted early to get a head start but there is still plenty of time.

Don't worry I always think I'm late even though I go by my books  ;)

Traditional day for planting marrows and runner beans outside is 12th May, Rook Shooting Day, so you are about right to miss any late frost.

I've only just done mine. Quite a few on our site have plants already in and some even have tomatoes outside  Mind you its a very windy exposed site and after the strong winds we had some are looking a little battered. I'm hoping mine will be ready to  put out early June.

The neighbours put runner beans in a couple of weeks ago and they (the beans not the neighbours!) are all but dead. My runners only came out of the packet about a week ago and are under glass – not taking chances here!

Beans are about the only thing I am successful at growing - but perhaps its because they are such obliging little things and come up so quickly.  Looking back at when I planted out last year it was well into June and I had a bumper crop.  So think you are absolutely fine

I'm now resowing sweetcorn and butternut squash as when I checked the pots - nothing there -had been watering pots of compost only  for ages - those blooming mice
