P.S. Why oh why can I not find a manual for the G150 which includes full strip down/repair instructions (for free from the 'net of course!) and decent engineering drawings of it's parts? I'd like a better picture of how the governor works so I can try and theorise why it's jammed, but can I find one?
Mind you, there are very good engineering drawings of the internal parts of the transmission and my brain can't seem to work out how that all interfaces
Blimey! You mean you can *grow* things in soil?

Does anyone happen to know if the F400's meant to have valve stem oil seals? Mine smoked like a destroyer when I ran it and I concluded that they must have been knacked. Took engine to bits, found not evidence of any seals but very work piston rings so am thinking this was the cause of the smoke.
I've got a gasket set on order from a local garden machinery dealer but they aren't a Honda agent and couldn't tell me yes or no. A webpage in the US shows said seals, but my (very nice) CD-based manual doesn't. I'd like to get some of the engine re-assembled, as the gasket set won't be here until the weekend, but don't want to have to strip it again if there's meant to be seals.
Anybody?  ???

Thanks Frankie. I had kinda-sorta come to that conclusion meself, as there weren't any in this engine, I couldn't see any evidence of any debris/bits leftover if they'd shredded themselves, and the manual I've got didn't show any.
What I also didn't want to do was re-assemble the engine to everything but the head gasket stage, get the gasket set from PGM later today/tomorrow and find two nice new valve stem oil seals sat there, meaning I'd have to strip the ruddy engine again to fit them!!!!
I'm reasonably convinced the smoke was down to knacked piston rings but you never know!

The bore on all three G150's I have are showing no signs of wear at all. The two I use do not smoke. I have had to grind in the valves on both.
Did you find anything wrong with the govenor ??

SAme here, bore looked pretty unworn but the rings were at their service limit for end gap, so I hope the new ones will stop the smoking (the oil control ring looked particuarly worn down).
The governor consists of a collar which slides along the end of the camshaft, and is moved by a pair of segmented flyweights. To keep the collar rotating with the camshaft (presumably to stop wear of the weights?) there is a metal wear plate rivveted to the cam sprocket, cut and bent from which there is a metal tab which engages in a slot in the collar. The end of said tab was quite burred, leading me to believe the governor collar had become stuck at the 'slow' end of it's travel. I hammered the burrs flat and filed/diamond honed them and hope this will be enough.
The only icky bit is the inlet valve. I've never seen seat recession as bad as this one, the seat on the valve has gone concave and the seat in the head is very poor. I am praying I can get sufficient clearance between the tip and the cam follower, otherwise this may be a real PITA! I really don't want to spend any more money on the thing now, just get it running and earning it's keep.

This thread is 11 months old, and Browser hasn't logged in for 10 months.

Out of interest, is there a reason you're resurrecting many old threads Vit?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Just interested in some threads. Is it restricted?  I browsed "Shed Eqipment", found this thread and was really impressed by Browser's job. And good photos as well.

Let me tell you one story - i registered on one messageboard about cars. Once upon a time someone bumped thead 4(!!!)years old, BUT topic started replied in a day or so, even he doesen't had much posts. And it's very common there to bump threads about year old
