I've had lime trees for most of my adult life.  All of mine are indoors, however.  I would trim it out.  Right now, those yellow bits are taking strength from the plant.  It is not unusual for lime trees to lose their leaves and then grow new ones.  It needs a good feed this time of year to wake it up and help it grow new leaves.  Work some manure into the soil or some commercial fertiliser.  It's hungry!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Hi Tracy. I hope this is a citrus lime not a tree for the park
Like oranges and lemons, limes will grow new shoots and don't mind being pruned quite hard, so cutting out any dodgy looking bits will not do it any harm at all.

The trunk should thicken up a bit as it grows and you might find you can train another shoot to be a leader if the whole of the top has gone, or keep it as a tree with a round head on a meter high trunk  :D
