curled up 'arms' on my tomatoes
« on: May 08, 2009, 21:29 »
firstly hello i usually lurk but feeling a little distressed over my little babies having curled up arms....i've googled this and can only find info on curled up leaves and i'm not sure if tom plants usually have curled up arms......I've been nurturing these little guys since mid Feb and they have masses of flowers and i've been giving all the back up plants away so i'm sure that you can understand the panic...... Sorry i'll try to pull myself together. Some of the 'arms' are curled under is this normal????
Any help much appreciated.
Samantha

Hi SM, and welcome to the forums - sorry your first post isn't a happier one  :(

Firstly, where are your tomato plants - indoors, unheated greenhouse, outdoors etc?

And what are you growing them in - compost, soil, have you added any manure?

Can you post a piccie?  here's how to do that

If you haven't added manure, this link isn't relevant; but if you have added it, do the leaves look anything like on this thread?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi Thanks for the reply.
Toms are in a double glazed greenhouse, it pretty warm but i ventilate it every day. They are in big pots there is a little manure in the bottom of the pots but it should be fine its from the horses in front of the house so can't be contaminated.

Its just a few arms adn they sort of curl around under them selves if this makes sense...

If it is the top three or four leaves which are curling under, then it is a healthy plant. All mine are like that. As the leaves grow and get longer then they straighten out.

They may be taking up a lot of nutrients very rapidly. They should grow normally as the plants get bigger.

From what you've described (you mention they curl under themselves), you've no need to worry - this is just how tomato plants grow, as Ivor has already posted.  :)

Def sounds OK to me.... I think it may be due to the healthy dollop of feed you've given them...so growing really well. Later they will stretch out to "normal".  :)

Yep - agree, mine do that too. There is a reason, but I can't remember offhand. I will ask my friend John the GH, he knows.
