I planted some roots about three weeks ago. Does anyone have any idea how long before I see and shoots appearing. I'm beginning to wonder if I've planted them upside down

It probably wont matter if you have.  They are very hardy and persistant plants to the extent that they can become troublesome.  I have mine tucked away in a far corner for this reason. 

Mine began to sprout at the end of March, although they are in partial shade.  It is a bit late to be planting, but they should be fine if they are lightly watered and firmed in.

In a couple of years you will wonder why you ever worried about them

thanks - I was well warned about their invasion techniques, so they gone into a big container. I suppose I'm just being impatient, cos its my first time growing the stuff, and can't wait to harvest it
