Great coloured balls, posh stick on tops and play-balls are not for me 

I have come across a free alternative!!   

On the way out of work the other day I spotted (in the bin compound where I keep my bike) a clear plastic box full of out of date sherbert sweet containers. The sherbert was past its sell-by date so had been thrown away - once intended for a Summer Fair or end of term disco.

The caretaker was pleased to let me take them away as the bin was over-flowing with black-plastic rubbish sacks as it was.

I took the sherbert containers home and emptied them out leaving three different designs of small plastic containers: black skulls, orange pumpkins and yellow ghosts (Halloween trick or treat sweets?).

I found that the containers wedge securely on to the tops of canes so will help keep my eyes safe and protect green netting on the plot. 

Especially useful for my elderly father who has had so many near misses!!

Today I found the caretaker had sorted out another 12 packs for me, each containg 30 plastic containers.

That's the spirit! I would love to see a picture, too, please - the idea of all those little shapes appeals ...
I will post a picture of the benecol pots in action, as soon as I have taken one - rather busy at the moment getting stuff in. Don't you just love this time of year?

I bought extra long canes (8 footers) for my tomatoes ( and beans) that are being planted out side.  No need for cane tops as the tops of the canes are about head height.  Down side is I can't store them in the shed so I'm going to have to improvise some storage for them at the end of September.  Swings & roundabouts.

If I have other staking issues then I recommend cheap tennis balls in Tesco and Summerfield at present.  They make excellent cane tops and last a couple of seasons.

I kept all my pill bottles - a carrier bag full - but nowadays, tablets are dispensed in horrible bubble pack things.

I've been using the one-pint plastic milk bottles as they also fit over the 1x1inch stakes which I've been using (stronger than canes but still able to catch an eye) and they have a nice big bottom for keeping up almost any size netting.

Make the most of those sherbet fountains as I heard a week or so ago that for health and safety reasons they are doing away with the cardboard and paper tubes and replacing them with plastic boxes. Health and safety???  grrrr  Never heard of anyone being poisoned by a sherbet fountain tube!!! Bring back chips in newspaper thats what I say.

I noticed that noise late evening the other week on the allotment! Took me quite a while to realise I was alone

They are just .5L multi pack bottles with knobbly bases.
I`m normally anti wind chime , aolean harp or similar but the triffid rattle does make me smile .
