Putting the youngsters outside....? we think they are 7 weeks old....

Hi all, advice please, we have three 7 1/2 week old Poland chicks. We are thinking about putting them out in their own run inside the run that our other 5 chickens (three biguns a Lavender Pekin and a silver lace wing bantam). Is it too soon? they seem to have their feathers now and seem too big for the smallish cage that they are in.

Hi Peaches and Clive! our 7 week hybrid chicks have been in the big henhouse for nearly 2 weeks now, so I would think they'd be okay.

Yes, I put mine out full time @ 7 weeks. I have some 5 1/2 week olds I'm considering putting out too cos their pretty sturdy.

As long as you're able to keep an eye out for any problems, they should be fine.

Hi, we put them out yesterday morning and they seem fine, they have got the hang of their make shift house and seem perfectly happy pottering about in their run inside the big run. I shut the big chickens away yesterday evening and let the little ones meet the bantams. One of the little ones, known as Rascal, walked up to a bantam, eyed her up, and pecked her in the chest! I had to intervene at this point as the Rascal was about to be shown who was boss! I now fear that Rascal is a boy!
