Advice on strawberrys please.

Just found Rangerkris' Post. 

  Soon it will be time for me to put straw under my strewberry plants. The only problem I have with this is that it harbors the slugs, who always seem to get to the fruit before me.

  Is their somthing better or as cheap as straw I can use, or would I be as well not putting any straw under at all.

I don't think there is any better to use, but you are always free to try the amount of slugs under weed excluding this and that for yourself.

I put down black weed control then some slug pellets and then some straw to nestle the strawberries. Loads of work but it works. Must be cheaper to go to the greengrocers!!
But hey if all else fails I go out and collect the slugs at night or early morning and chuck the slugs to the chickens.
Have fun!! You never know the sun might shine and the slugs will go underground!!! Fat chance this is the UK.....
