Vegetable Spaghetti
« on: May 05, 2009, 20:12 »
My vegetable spaghetti seedlings have just emerged - does anyone else grow these under-rated cucurbits??
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

I grew them one year. They were not anything like spagetti but interesting to grow. They don't have a lot of taste so I hope your Mom is a good cook to make them more yummy.

I'm growing them this year and looking forward to them.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I'm growing them for the first time. My stepdaughter says cut them in half, bake them in the oven cut side down, fork out the insides and drench in butter, black pepper and grated cheese.

"drench in butter, black pepper and grated cheese."

That's what we did when I was a kid. But I think the novelty wore off after a single season :)

I may be saying the same thing by the end of the year - never had them! But my stepdaughter's coeliac so anything approaching spag bol is acceptable, especially if it isn't glutenfree pasta, which we all think is vile.

We often have vegetable spaghetti tossed with pesto as a side dish or add flaked salmon and peas to make an easy supper dish.
I
t's not exactly like spaghetti, much softer but also much lighter

I find them very easy and productive - average of 6  per plant

They also keep well if properly ripened - still have 1 left now.
