How chuffed am I?
« on: April 21, 2009, 21:09 »
Got my first seedlings showing today in the one of my window cill propagators. Three little cucumber plants just showing their heads.

Have got onions and garlic growing on the plot, but this is the first growth from a seed.

Can't believe how chuffed it's made me feel  :)

There's only two of us and we only grow three cue plants, we always end up  asking 'are you  eating some cue with you cornflakes?'

Don't forget to take the lid off - or the aluminium foil!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

DD do I need to take the lid off straight away? Only 3 of the 24 (12 cucumber & 12 courgette) are showing and of those 3 only one is really 'above ground'.

Should the lid come off now, or shall I give it a bit longer?

And before you all tell me, I know I won't need 12 cucumber plants! I am working on the basis that some won't make it and of those that grow okay, I will keep the strongest 3 and give the rest away.

Got talked into growing some by a friend (We went half on all our seed purchases) have two seedlings up and already potted on and another sowing will be done this weekend, but for the life of me I am not sure why, if we ate a whole Cucumber last year I would reckon we done well, just don't eat it much. Any takers for a futures market on un-wanted Cuc's?

Luckily I have lots of other greenhouse veg on the way that I do eat.

They should be left under the lid no longer than necessary, otherwise they'll go leggy.

If they are in seperate pots, I'd take them out, keep them somewhere warm & light & stick some ali foil behind them to reflect more light.

Thanks DD

They are in modules, so as soon as they are 'properly' up, I will pot them on and leave the rest to do their thing.

Now, where can I find another window cill from  ::)
