Tomato flowers on the main stem????
« on: April 19, 2009, 20:32 »
Hi everyone, just joined the site. Only started growig my own veg last year after moving inot a house with a large garden and also inherited a greenhouse with it as well.

I've been growing some alicante and san marzano tomatos in the greenhouse and they've been going along nicely and i've kept on top of nipping out the sideshoots but now i've noticed that there are flowers forming on the main vertical stem. I'm sure their supposed to grow on the side trusses but not 100% sure so was wondering if any of you more seasoned tomato growers could give me a bit of advice on this as i'm half minded to pinch them out. The plants are only about 2ft-3ft tall by the way and have about 6 trusses growing on them.

Many thanks in advance.

Just been and took a photo, the plants are actually only 1 and a half feet tall, now that i've actually measured them. lol

Blimey, they are far on.  A picture paints a thousand words so if you can post one it would be useful.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Look fine to me - the flowering stem will grow bigger, the flowers will open, and the whole contraption will become a truss.
