A block of 6 x 5 would have been much better.

Will try in blocks this year, and give a shake at the right time. Thanks guys

I'd try & squeeze in 4 x 4, I know quite a few who use less spacing then 18" & get away with it! It's 7 extra plants afterall!

Thanks - will go for it.  I have 4 x 3ft beds so potential for a lot of sweetcorn!

Mainly in your water!

ooh, this must have crossed in the post! I don't have problems with me water

I'm going to go for 12 inches this year. They seem to be about 6 inches or even less when you see them growing in fields

Water is Ice's problem!

Are you sure that's sweetcorn & not maize for cattle feed?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I just checked mine after you posted that pic and they're doing the same. Just stuck them in paper pots quick before they started breaking out!

My paved yard is the width of the house, and half the length... so.. what? about 14ft wide and 7ft long?

Usual children things in it, slide, bikes, football, then my mini greenhouses and some pots.

I fear you are about to tell me I need 300 football pitch lengths or something ridiculous.

Grandad grew his in the garden against the wall!

For seven I would be tempted do like this:

This would take up just 3' x 3'.

So, I can not just line them up against a wall... I do not really have space to have them in the middle of my yard! Where would my washing and Liams toys go?

Looks like I can not have sweetcorn then... not sure what to do with them >.<

You can try in a line, but it's not the best formation for pollinating.

When the plants are producing pollen make sure you shake them so it falls on the embryonic cobs.

Pollinating is the best bit - I loved popping the male bits onto the sticky female bits, much more fun than shaking  :)
Amazing results DD, have put some to chit tonight as well, since seeing your pic.
No airing cupboard or kitchen roll, so it was wet toilet roll in a sandwich bag in heated propagator for mine.
Same diff I reckon, if they're kept moist.
No paprika either unfortunately, they'll just have to soldier on without  :D
