Growing Veg in Old Baths
« on: April 18, 2009, 23:26 »
Hi all,
Ive just about given up all hope of ever growing anything direct into the soil on my plot owing to the plot being well infested with Jap Knotweed  >:( Ive been toying with the idea of growing everthing in old baths any downsides to this ???.
                                                                                                             Dave.
IF WORK WAS SUCH A GOOD THING THEN THE RICH WOULD HAVE FOUND A WAY OF KEEPING IT ALL TO THEMSELVES !!!

I can't see any, Womble....except your plot may look a bit like a bathroom showroom  :D

Almost anything can grow in pots/containers of all kinds, and baths are roomy, deep and would make excellent containers I reckon.

But have you looked into the "no dig" method?  You could try that and a bath or two this season? Also potatoes in compost bags, carrots/parsnips/onions in buckets, lettuces in troughs...the list is endless  :)

The only thing I found growing stuff in a bath make sure you have enough drainage holes after a wet period thyre is no where for the rain to go and the amount we have here sometimes you will need drainage holes.

I use some containers/pots on my plot but it does cost a lot in soil/compost/stuff to fill them.
