I think my beans were sown too early
« on: April 17, 2009, 13:40 »
I can't remember the day I my beans were sown, but I am pretty sure I did them way too early. Here is a pic taken today

As you can see they are rather large now, should I just scrap these and start afresh?

Hi

I'd pot them on asap into the largest pots you have.

Or...plant out with fleece but looking at where you are that's probably too risky.
Top tip for camping....don't go.

haha, Spud, I have done exactly the same thing!  My beans look just like yours, I'm sure the seed packet said sow in March/April but when I looked at my Allotment book it said sow in May    I don't know whether to leave them in the greenhouse or start again?????  I'm gonna watch this thread with interest.

Maybe they are going to rush round to their plot if nights look like being cold, armed with blankets of fleece  :D You never know .....    or maybe they've just trusted to luck

If you have a greenhouse, why not plant these in the border soil?   If they are behind whatever else you put in there, they will help shade the other plants from too much sun! I always sow my beans a bit early, like last week!!!  but if the weather is still iffy when they come up, I plant them in the polytunnel, then sow more for outside.  I had a nice little clutch of beans last year.

I've never done this - what a brilliant tip, thank you. A few very early runners will be much appreciated  :D
