I was going to mention the 'U' planet but that would have been childish and silly

My first year and I am also having a 'mare...

Beetroot, four germinated out of about 30; two peas germinated from 60 (three varieties), no sign of my broad beans...

Buggeration.  >:(

Where are you trying to germinate them scabs?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Sorry   Union rules. I know

We've have a fantastic rate to get back on topic. The greenhouse is like a jungle. Everything about 2 months too early as usual (not me. OH with no patience) but very impressive.  :)

Not at all too late for toms. They'll soon catch up.
Thank goodness as I tripped over one pot today and trod on the seedligns as they fell out  :tongue2: :tongue2: had to be the beefy ones :(

50% success with germination and I am blaming the weight of the soil based compost. It's like concrete! I'd have trouble pushing my way up through it if I'd been burried underneath it! Some seed trays have a complete 'no show'

No more doing it properly for me - I think I'll bung the remainder of the John Innes No2 seed compost straight on the flower bed and use some lighter peat based "anything that's cheap".... this usually works well.

I've got some chillis (cayenne, jalapeno and Joe's long) spare if you want me to bring some over as visiting Stuart's pigs the first Sunday in May. He said you were coming over too.

YAY!! Itll be lovely to meet you Kate  :D Id love the jalapenos if you dont mind too  :D

I've ended up mixing my manky multi compost with a John innes one ..................
the JI seems to have sorted out the problems with the non peat one :)

have a try rather than throwing yours away.... just mix a little bit in and it will make the multi purp more moisture retentive but won't be able to set solid.

Great news, peapod!
Same here, crappy germination with chillis so far - one tabasco has sprouted and two cayenne, but none of my lemon drops and I wanted those most  :(
Still, patience is a virtue & maybe they're just slow. I'm hopeful, now yours have popped up  :D

OO lemon drop, I wanted to try those, let me know how they turn out. Cayenne (if I remember rightly) took about 4 weeks to come through and then romped on last year for me.  My toms and chillies have been in since march 12 and now Im hopeful they are all on their way
But im still dodgy about the compost so am hunting for better today.

Germination has been a bit strange.
Tomatoes all have come up, and at the same time.
Onions, about 1 in ten.  :(
Leeks, started out poor but I seem to have loads now. They just didn't happen at the same time or even close to each other.  ::)
Peppers, looked like 0, but 2 (planted 6) appeared the other day after 30+ days.  :(
Celeriac, pot full of the things, only wnted a few.  :tongue2:
Brocolli, looks good, if not 100% then close.  :D
Cauli, Slow and again not at the same time but probably fair (70-80%).  ::)
Carrot, no idea, fine seed and enough have come up.  ::)
