Sparrows feasting on pea flowers

Any suggestions as to how to stop them?  Is a fleecy coat the only answer?

I don't have problems with birds taking the flowers, but they do when they start to pod.

I have to net twice during the season, once at the initial stage until the plants are about 3" high, otherwise the pigeons will have them, the nets are also pegged down tightly to try & keep the mice out.

The second time is, as I mentioned, when they pod. The pigeons squash down the foiliage to make a landing pad.

It looks like you'll have to net/fleece a bit earlier at the flower stage.
