crowing cockerels
« on: April 05, 2009, 18:12 »
Hello everyone. Does anyone out there have the same problem as me? My cockerels appear to be crowing throughout the night. I dont mind but I,m sure my neighbours do. I,ve tried shutting the pop hole but that didnt work. Could it be that because I have 2 cocks they are crowing for status? :

I'm no expert, but I think you've hit the nail on the head! Wait to see if you get other replies

I had just one cockerel, Bob Dylan. He'd doodle do at all hours  ::)
It probably isn't helping having the 2, one will no doubt set the other off.

Yep, that is it - i have 4 cockerells here so you can imagine what that is and it is still the old boy that is the loudest.  Mine start at 3.45 a.m.  ???  3 are together and 1 is in the hen house with the girls.  But they all run together during the day.

If you can make sure their house is as dark as possible that might help. However, more than one cockerel does make them noisier Im afraid.

Ours will crow as soon as they hear the wife get up to go to work at about 4am and then start back up just as the sun starts to rise. Nights of a full moon however they tend to crow off and on all night.

It's suprising though the Oriental Games we have rarely crow at all. There is probably at least 10 roosters all told but only one per pen.

we have just got a white loghorn cock. So far he's brill. He crows twice just as the sun starts to rise, and that's it. He does sometimes crow during the day, too. The old boy we got him from said if cockerels are a problem, people used to "hood" them at night, a bit like a falcons hood. Not sure if I'd want to try it but if it saves a noisy bird from having to go, maybe.... has anyone else heard of this.
