Strawberrys not germenating
« on: April 04, 2009, 19:09 »
I have some Thompson and Morgan Strawberry seeds that were the best part of £4. I have sprinkled them on the surface of damp compost as instructed and kept covered with plastic dome and damp. They have been there about 3 weeks and have not germinated. Is this normal to take so long, and if not, why would all of them fail ?

I did the same with some seeds a couple of weeks back, though I did,nt keep the packet and can,t remember who,s seed they were, nothing happened and i decided last week that i would give then till today to show themselves otherwise its the bin,, however yesterday they did start to show signs of germinating and this morn I have a few green shoots, I guess time needs to be given,, the other thing I did was o move them across on the window sill to an area that gets a bit more sun.

There slow if you don't have them in a heated prop, mine took a couple of weeks with heat. Don't forget they need light to help germinate  :) :)

They're slow, and need a lot of heat (mine were worse than the melons, last year).

Still no sign of growth. I have ended up going out and buying a couple in pots for only £1.25 each. Should have done this in the first place instead of paying £3.60 for Thompson and Morgan seeds. I shall be contacting them if they don't sprout. They are in a greenhouse as well as having a plastic dome over the pot to act as a mini greenhouse.
