Well, is it still too early ?
« on: March 23, 2007, 10:33 »
Another lovely sunny day here in Staffordshire, and I am so tempted to plant something.

I see some people are putting their potatoes in now, and I will have to soon  as they have 6" chits, but is it time yet to plant anything else.   I have a mini greenhouse that I can start seeds off in, but after last weeks snow, I don't know whether it is still too early.

Any advice ?

I'm one for holding back, but I've put onion sets, shallots, & early peas in outside. Spuds will go in shortly, & possibly parsnips.

Flowers such as marigolds, you could get started under cover, I find these fairly tolerant to lower temperatures & I've also got my sprouts in plant plug seed tray inserts in the cold greenhouse.

6" chits ? Did you keep them in a light place?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

id knock them off mate look for new ones down to about an inch .they will not be very strong being that longt .they have started to early ,knock em off look for new ones to come and then plant them out ,if sproutings are to long they get bruised when you plant them and can rot and if they rot the spud does to  :(
still alive /............
