Perch sizes
« on: April 03, 2009, 13:53 »
The perches in my new chicken coop are barely 3/4" across is this wide enough for the hens? I have read in other articles that 2" perches are ideal. Which would be best and would natural branches in straight (ish) lengths be better as opposed to plain sawn wood?

We have a mixture of normal perches and natural branches.
The branches we find best as the bird will move to the section of the branch that is most comfortable, so pressure isn't  always on the same part of the foot. Just like in the wild. :)
I may take my time.....but i'll get there in the end.

Planed 2"x2" with the corners rounded off for me and as few cracks and crevices as possible and removable so you can take them out and check for the dreaded RED MITE.
