Do slugs like comfrey
« on: April 01, 2009, 15:06 »
I've just finished digging over a corner in the garden that was very over. I came accross hundreds of slug eggs. Figure it was The Hilton for my slug population!

I plan to put my comfrey root cuttings into it.  Will the slimey beggers go for the new shoots?, am i better to put the root cuttings into pots until a little bit established?
Liv.

I have had Comfrey on my plot for 3 years as yet no slug damage!

Put the slug eggs somewhere the birds can eat them :tongue2:
The answer lies in what you put into the ground!

I think comfrey is pretty bombproof. Slug eggs look like small beads as far as I know. I always put them on my paths when I find some (if that is what they are), the thrushes seem to like them.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

hmmm, now I'm a tad confused, cos I read on t'interweb that a method of keeping slugs off your veg was to put a pile of comfrey leaves at the end of the bed to attract the slugs .... mind you, I'm blonde and we're easily confused :D

Slug eggs are like little white round beads, and they lay them in groups of 20 or so. I even came across a few slug mums  :( . I put them all into a pot and left them out for our four hungry hens. They make short work of them!

I think i'll just stick the comfrey root in the then.

Yabba, perhaps a heap of dead comfrey leaves is more of an attraction than the new shoots. So you could be right.
