Just had the third egg laid.  On the floor between the perches.  She'd cleared all the sawdust away and it didn't half fall with a bang.

Only three lost due to worming treatment, any from tomorrow are fair game. :)

I`ve got a hen that does that in the nest box , she also stands on tiptoe to get maximum height. A square of corrugated cardboard in the bottom of the nest box has saved a lot of her eggs from cracking.

I think I'll be trying the corrugated cardboard if she lays there again.

One thing I've really noticed, having cracked one out of curiosity, is what thick shells the girls eggs have compated to the supermarket ones.  Weve always bought organic free range out of principle and there is no comparison between the shell thickness.

Sarah, many thanks for the leg rings, I'll let you know when they arrive. I'm going to send for red and green tags as well so we'll definately know whos who.

As I've only two laying I'd love to be able to work out really easily which two.  Also one out of three seems to have yellow pooh, I've looked on the pooh link and it looks like one of the normal ones but I'm getting it everyday.  She stands in front of me as she does it but by the time they've shuffled round once it could be anyone.

yes it seems to be but I want to make sure that its not the same hen every time.  I've definately found some every day and I wouldn't have thougt it could be the worm one with them having been wormed on Sunday.

Well number 3 out of four is currently sat in a nest box and I think about to lay for the first time.  That will make 6 eggs in one week with only a fourth one to start laying.

What fun getting a house for 12 birds with four in it I'll know who's laid as there very much sticking to their own nest box.  The four one to start laying, who hasn't yet, has got the box left opposite the pop hole and it will be interesting to see if she chooses that or one of the others.

They seem to spend all afternoon performing for the first egg with a lot of up and down to the house and rosey.  An hours or so for the second and by the third I'm sure she was up and down in 5 minutes.

Good luck if your hens are new to point of lay.  At least by this stage I know what to expect
