Grapes
« on: March 31, 2009, 13:35 »
Can anyone tell me whether grapes are a bad idea for chooks?  I read recently they are poisonous to dogs and so maybe they are not OK.

PS thanks for all your help on this site, we have kept ex-batts for the last 18 months and everyone's advice has been invaluable.  Still learning a bit more every day.

Hi Jaxo

Welcome to the forums :D

Grapes are ok for hens, some people use them as a way of getting wormer into their girls & boys :D

Like all treats best not to over do it though :D

Never heard that about grapes and dogs, one of ours loves fruit of any sort  Will be more careful what I give him in future :)

Sarah :D

Yup, grapes are our girlies favourite snack (I have to cut them in half to make them go further they eat them so fast otherwise!)

our hens hate grapes - they look at them, take one peck and then make a horrid face.

try chopping them in half;  mine love them because they're nice and juicy but when I used to give them whole they just turned their beaks up but since I split them in half to reveal the juicyness they're all over them!

Same with oranges; they can't get enough of orange segments
