Ignorant about shed prices
« on: March 28, 2009, 22:58 »
I am working up to getting a shed for the purposes of chicken housing. I want a 6x4 wooden shed, bog standard. There are some constraints though - I live way out where and delivery costs 20 - 40 pounds for big stuff usually. I don't want to go to B&Q to shop and then have delivered as then I have to pay £20 delivery as well as a round trip of 70 miles to buy the thing.   Freecycle hasn't come up with anything, and anyway I have no way of getting a shed home so I'd have to then find a "man with a van".

So I am looking online. The cheapies on ebay are all buyer collect and never in my area - also means the "man with a van" of course. The best I have found is £145 delivered to my door. BUT... is this a good price?

Sorry for a long post, I just wanted to avoid people posting up all the good suggestions that won't work for me  :)
3 o'clock is both too early and too late to start anything - Sartre said so.

Thanks Aunt Sally - Shedstore is one of two online places at that price - but theirs has too many windows!

A bit of wood instead of glass would soon sort that out  ;)

cheapest way is to buy wood and  make one out of feather edge boards and 2 by 2 posts . it will cost includeing srews and the lot ........45 pound if that........thats for a 6 x4 shed with no windows . thats what you want i have made 4 of them for my chickens they seem to be fine in there with there nest boxes and  purches.

Hi have you looked at the garden stores  I have the 6' x 2'7 maxi wallstore. I divided it so I have some where to put the bedding etc, and put in a nest box and perch. then cut out a pop hole and attached a run on the side

I use to be indecisive now I'm not so sure

This sounds ideal... BUT it involves the OH who is incapable of "knocking up" anything simple. It has to be drawn and planned and fretted (sorry) over for weeks!! I have just recovered from the trauma if him making the current coop last summer. Paying for a ready made one seemed a better option  :tongue2: If I can send him on holiday for a week maybe I'll have a go myself though. BTW what did you make the roof out of?

My mind is racing away now :D

The maxi store gives me an idea to build my own but in that pent style as it has to go against a wall and easier that ridge roof.

Will the wood yard have undoline and can you get it cut to size? Do you fasten it with roof felt nails or what?

Making the door should be fun  alotment shed do you have exterior nest boxes?
