I haven't actually got that far in my asparagus growing but apparently they don't like being moved. Bob Flowerdew even goes so far as to recommend grwoing from seed rather than planting one year old crowns.

A 2 yr old root can be moved, but as said, with a big soil ball as the roots would have started spreading. We've successfully moved very old asparagus roots but we had a tractor bucket to carry away the root ball Before digging, water the area very well. Hydrated roots will transplant better than dry ones, and have your next spot ready to plant.
