Worming season
« on: March 24, 2009, 17:30 »
Done the dog and decided to do the chucks starting last Sunday with flubenvet. This morning when I opened up there was a huge puddle with loads of worms! I suspect one of the ex-bats who is a bit ropey looking and from the position in the henhouse. We hadn't been in a hurry to worm them as our original four are still quite young and in theory the ex-bats shouldn't have them, how wrong was I? They have had verm x every month as well.
Don't read the next bit if you are eating

While I was doing poo patrol this morning the one with worms must have passed some more and Barbara was being chased around with (horror) one of the worms in her beak and promptly ate it! I'm assuming that once they come out they are dead, at least I hope it was. You need a strong stomach to do this before breakfast.

Don't know. And not sure I want to. :nowink:

Must do ours. Oh the joys of animal husbandry. ::)

Indeed, it does appear to have been a waste of time as one of our first lot promptly dumped in front of me tonight - literally. Not looking forward to tomorrow morning. Nic.

Stick with the flubenvet nic. It seems kinder on the chickens in the long run. :)

Indeed, I have been impressed with its efficiency! The smell of vermx makes me heave and it's harder to disguise too. Valentine the ex-bat is indoors away from the flock at hte moment but I didn't want her to miss out on the fun so I put a tiny, tiny pinch in a nugget of sweetcorn and gulp - down in one. Nic.
