Watering seed compost

Is there rule a  :? of thumb for watering compost before and after planting seeds in the greenhouse?
If I tell someone my beans or leeks are taking a long time to germinate, I am told I have watered too much.
Same question to someone else and I have not watered enough.

Or is it just common sense .. like keep the compost "moist" :?: :?

Take a large watering can, fill it with water.  Sit it in the corner and watch it for 2 more weeks.  This will give your seeds time to germinate.    :D

And if you are really impatient  grow some cress and alfafa while you wait for it all to germinate.  This is what I do.  It is nice to see something growing :D

Jim, this how I do mine, take a 3inch pot, fill it with compost and put it in a tray and fill the tray with water, I have cut some broken glass to fit the top of the plant pots, put the glass on top of the pot and put it on yer window sil, everyday turn the glass round, as the compost heats up it will draw up the water so the top is moist, I can get my leeks up in 3-5 days. Once up they are transfered to the greenhouse to develope.

take a seed tray fill loosley with compost ,usung a flat piece of plank about 10 inch long 4 inch wide and a 1/2 inch thick . cut a small piece of wood and fit this to the plank in the middle as a handle ( it looks like a float a plasterer would use ).now take this and push the compost level all over the tray by sweeping off any excess using the edge of the  plank ./now using the plank again  press the compost down all over inside the tray to just below the surface .,now water it with a fine rose on a watering can. allow it to drain for 30 mins or so and then sow tha seed .use a fine sieve and just put compost over the surface of the tray  to cover the seeds if it says so on the packet
still alive /............
