It's not actually notifiable but it is an offence to allow it to spread.

http://www.bridgnorth-dc.gov.uk/EnvironmentAndPlanning/Pollution/PollutionControl-ContaminatedLand1

Also, any remnants or soil containing remnants is controlled waste.

Nasty, nasty, nasty stuff. >:(

I've herd it can eat through concrete. There was a woman on the tv show homes under the hammer who bought a building plot then found knot weed. She had to spend £20,000
getting the soil replaced to a depth of a meter or two and a weed proof barrier around the plot before she could get permission to build - scary stuff!

Yes it will pretty much grow through anything i dug a childs bike out of the ground when clearing the area and it had grown straight throught the seat   But we find that if it has an easier route to take it will take that.  So we've lined our raised beds and it tends to grow up the sides between the membrane and the wood so its easier to keep in check ::)

I used to have a garden that was totally overrun with bindweed, with it groing up into the hedges and roses and everywhere. It took 4 repeat doses of glyphosphate over the summer to finish it off (I couldn't bring myself to dig up the whole garden having tried a bit!).

In our garden now it is ground elder, though it isn't really a problem, but brambles take over my hedge if I turn my back - big nasty brambles they are too (though they do make nice jam!)

The worst weeds are those whose roots are next door but you get the top --- brambles & bind weed here

I have a weed that I cant identify so would be grateful for any advice please?

Its got big palish green leaves like dock but they have small hairs on them that stick in you and when it flowers they are small and pale blue almost like a forget-me-not. The root is similar to a dandelion in that it is like a tuber and goes down quite a long way, when you cut it there is a milky sap

It is an absolute b****r to get rid of and loves the beds and between the crazy paving

Sorry for the odd description but i'd love to know what it is! Many thanks :)

It's green alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens) !

http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/alkanet.htm

We have enough to suply a small planet. very pretty blue flowers but it will grow anywhere and everywhere. I've dug up maybe thirty out of one bed just to allow some foxgloves to grow through.

But looks nice in the hedge bottom. :)

If I remember rightly, they use the flowers as decoration in cocktails and food.

They are attractive though. Might try and practice my macro photography on one. Prepare for a pale blue blur in a few weeks !

Goose grass is what I know it as. Reasonably easy to control.

Dandelions annoy me as they come back from other people's seeds as soon as you clear the place.  Couch grass is a right pain to remove too.

Creeping buttercup is my nightmare this year.
Agree
Creeping Buttercup is a problem in the damper areas of the plot - they like it moist!
Dandelions - I agree, mine was smothered in the plants when I took over the plt, was thinking of growing them as a crop!!
