My dad planted Houttuynia a few years ago. He had to weedkill it and dig every scrap out. Took him all year. Menace.
Ohh. GREAT! I just knew it would be... :(

My houttunya just died -- leaves smelt a bit odd like burnt tangerines so wasn't sorry. May have been abit of a lucky escape form the sound o fit.

Don't forget sodium chlorate is only available to buy until the end of September and only legally to be used until May next year! This 'directive' also includes some of the 'path clear' type weed killers. Have now had the official notification from Doff.

Thanks for the heads up wighty, will try and get a stock in beforehand.
Was the same with Derris; you can still find a few bits online though...but only until supply is exhausted, which can't be far off at all.
Grass is another 'weed' I forgot to mention, yet the worst for me...chickweed/brambles/nettles etc are only in the growing season (bad enough, but easily controlled when you're regularly attending to things) but I had a full lawn sprout up on my patch since last summer, to replace the one I only dug up 18 months ago  :( Obviously seeds flying about as folks gave their gardens one last mow before winter......and they all headed for my patch  :(
How invasive is borage? I planted 3 lots of it in my patch last year, to encourage bees....and am now thinking 'ooops, should I have put it somewhere else?' - I've since read that it 'freely seeds'  (note to myself - READ about what you're planting before you plant it)

Don't worry, although Borage does self seed it is easily hoed off as a seedling.. it is not a pernicious thug

My Houttunya also died. They like sunshine. I planted it in the shade. That may help those of you who are trying to kill it off!! ;)

Got to be bindweed and marestail.  I've had a patch on my plot covered for over a year to kill off the weeds ( weed suppressing fabric and old carpet, I know carpets frowned upon now but hey ho).  Took off the covering this week and started to turn over the soil.  Loads of dead looking roots all with bright new growth at the tips - the dreaded mares tail still lives.  Persistent little devil isn't

Has to be bindweed....it is pure evil in plant form.

Did I mention my plot is positively carpeted in the stuff??  Grrrrrrrr...............plus goose grass, nettles and brambles - but give me those any day instead of bind weed AKA "that bleepin' spaghetti plant!!!" ::)

Mum had some but I think it's gone. It never did do very well.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
