Tomato Hundreds and Thousands - how many plants
« on: March 21, 2009, 14:09 »
This year i sowed some Tomato Hundreds and Thousands Seeds  and they have all come up and are nice little plants. I want to plant up a hanging basket for my Mum's, MIL and Sisters birthday.

Does anyone know how many should go in a 10inch basket. I may possibly add some basil to the baskets.

Want to make sure I have enough plants.
Try my best to be Organic but don't always make it

I'm planning 1 or no more than 2 if I have some spares.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Lovely idea LS, Id love that gift  :D

Id go for one too, they are very prolific (stating the obvious there!)

Oh that's good then - thanks both of you

I did think that one plant would be enough but as i've never grown them before
it was pure guess work. I've plenty of plants now. The packet said eight seeds but there were actually 12 and they all germinated and seem to be growing very well.

I'm making two baskets for each of them. One with strawberry plants and the other with the tomato plants and possibly the basil.

Great idea but a ten inch basket sounds too small - it would dry out too quick.

If you could manage it a14 inch basket would be much better and would take 3 plants
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

i wouldnt do more than 2 in a 14 inch basket.  they look small now but they grow quickly.  personally i wouldnt put basil in a basket, but would put it in a seperate pot.  if you want it to look a bit more plush, my trailing ivy does well with the trailing toms. :)
