brassicas under cover

help I planted out cauli, very healthly and put cloches over them, a week later they have completely dissapeared no slugs in sight, no wilted leaves...just no caulis...anyone any clues...are the mice keen on plants . all advice would be welcome.

mice wouldnt eat them im thinking cooked and wilted .pigeon will eat them . or check the soil for grubs ... green ones .thick white leathery ones
