The allotment dvd - no dig potatoes
« on: March 19, 2009, 22:16 »
Hi there, had been watching the allotment dvd a month or so ago (great Christmas present) and liked the look of the new plot/no dig advice.

I think it went like this:
put down cardboard
cover with horse manure
cover with black plastic
cut holes and plant spuds.

Am wondering if I have got this right, or should I be mixing in soil/compost with the manure?

The manure I have is 2 - 3 years old.

Thanks,
LD

I did this only without the plastic (I used straw and earth). It would have been better without pyralid!

What I did get was easy to 'earth up' and harvest though, so not a complete disaster. Definitely labour saving. :)
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Thank you LD, just bought it - bargain!

On Amazon it is £35 + postage for a USED copy!
Thank you again....now back to your taters, & soz for the diversion  :)
(I've also heard of woodburner's method, ie straw and earth instead of plastic, btw)
