Anyones elses girls still not laying?
« on: March 16, 2009, 18:26 »
Hi all

Just wondering if your girls are laying. I rescued mine a couple of months ago and they were laying for a couple of weeks, then stopped when they started moulting. They are looking really good now most their feathers are through and they have put weight on.  I am now just eagerly waiting for them to start laying again.

any ideas how long !!!!!!!

It depends how much weight they've put on ! :)

If overweight, they'll stop laying. You need to make sure they don't get treats too regularly.

What feeding regime do they have ?

Hi guys I have got three ex bats and I give them layers mash which I am just going to start getting them off and onto pellets bit by bit and they have a bit of corn in the afternoon so that they take their feed first I do give them scraps now and then but they dont seem interested not used to it I guess.

Should they be laying then do you think?

Also how long do they usually stop for when they moult?

Cheers

Just re-read your original post. Are they ex-bats ???

If so, they'll be pretty tired out by popping out eggs. They may need a bit of extra protein and vitamins to help them through the moult and extra calcium if they do start again.

I wouldn't expect too much from them egg-wise. :)

Would they take a bit longer to recover from moulting looby ?

After a tough start, it must weaken them terribly.

They all are really healthy and happy :) will worm them anyway though to be sure just thought it was bit early for it! they are only just starting to get more sun on the run maybe that has some part in it or maybe they are just done with laying and are enjoying their retirement

i would worm them , peeps on here have suggested flubenvet aslo a veternairy nurse i know suggested it as well as she uses it for her ex batts .

now would be a good time to worm them ready for the spring months .
it could be possible that they have come to the end of tier time but i doubt it most ex batts normaly turn out to be young birds an they can lay for quite some time , hopfully someone with more experience will be along shortly .

nothing unusual with a couple of months without eggs from the start of molting.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

May benifit from all the help they can get.  Worms from garden, meal worms, grit, poultry spice, Battles tonic in water and general tlc are all welcome as this is a tuff time for them.  They have been through a lot of stress and not laying is the bodys way of re-building  its self.  Not unusual after a molt.  Give them time and they will come back.  Hope things get better soon.

I'm only getting 6 out of my 14 ex-bats, but dont care as they are lovely anyway.

Some look better than others and they are just being chickens scratching and pecking and sun bathing at the moment.
