Hi Gaz

Is the toe still bleeding?

Have you cleaned it up & had a good look at it?

One of my four chickens 'Sage' had a mystery toe bleed that would clear up and then bleed again! very stumped until I realised two of the others were pecking her and making it bleed!!

It then snowballed into bum pecking which got rather bad and I had to find a solution .... I used gentian violet sprey (purple sprey) because the chickens go for red and the sprey covers this up! and helps to stop the pecking ...

But I also found out in my case that is! that I used cage bird sand in a dust bath (which they ate) and mine must have been lacking some mineral as the pecking stopped.

All the best with your chicken! and I hope you find the cause  :)

Difficult what to suggest Gaz ???

If it were me I'd get it completely cleaned up and give the foot a real good examination, must be a cut or loose nail to cause bleeding. Then give it a squirt of purple spray.

As Trina has said it could be a peck from another bird, but I'd still give it a good clean up :)

It's called Purple spray :)

It helps stop infection in the wound :)
It's also useful as hens are attracted to red and will peck anything red,  if you spray the red area with it it turns purple and hopefully will then stop any further pecking :)

The spray is either known as Gentian Violet Spray or Purple Spray it is used by horse owners for horse cuts etc it is an antiseptic - most horse or Poultry places should stock it just spray it on the foot and it will cover up any red or blood marks (obviously once the wound has been checked and cleaned). The other chickens ar attracted to red and blood and will make the wound worse!

But wear gloves as it does stain!!!!!!!!

It will stay on your chicken for a while but you may have to do a touch up job until it has healed.
