Peas outside now with home made protection tip
« on: March 16, 2009, 07:15 »
I have peas in the greenhouse and was wondering if they are ok to plant out providing I use my home made mini protection/greenhouse. What I have done is cut in half a 2 Litre clear plastic bottle. If I place the half with the open top (no screw cap) over each individual pea, it will not only protect against slugs but act as a mini greenhouse thus speeding growth. Has anyone else tried this ?

you must have a lot of bottles! i have tried it with lettuce and it works fine but i think i would need too many bottles for peas

I haven't planted them yet. I have smaller bottles. I intend to plant about 8 out and when the weather gets warmer keep sewing into the ground to add to the already growing plants.

Have dunnit for the last 2 years. Works quite well! Plant them at the distance as the pack says.
I get my bottle from friends. I also use bottles with the neck in the ground and the bottom cut off so I can water plants without evaporation :tongue2:
The answer lies in what you put into the ground!
