[Caralou]

One of the two rescued birds has been of her food for a few days. She was drinking and free ranging happily so just left her to it and tried not to worry. Yesterday I noticed a strange poop, very similar to that in Aunt Sally's chicken poo thread showing a possible kidney infection. Well, today she has produced poop similar to that of the egg peritonitis piccy as well as another that would indicate a kidney problem and so I believe she is not well at all.

Being a Sunday there is not much I can do but keep an eye on her for the day, but she is still not eating and the others are picking on her as if they know something is wrong. I suspect that she may not make it, but if anyone can suggest anything to help it would be appreciated. Had I not taken her she would have been culled so at least she's been given a chance.

I know you may suggest a poultry friendly vet, BUT I made the decision when I got the rescued warren's that they are for eggs not pets and that if I can't treat myself it will be bedtime for them (with the vet until I learn how to do that part myself) so help that I can carry out will be most appreciated. I'm not really sure about the sickness Caralou, but to stop her being picked on can you put her somewhere on her own with food and water, maybe even a large cardboard box.  Give her some time see if she eats or drinks away from the others.

I'm sure in time there'll be someone more experienced to give you some advice, but I'd think seperating her may be the best at the mo.

I have a large cat cage that she's going to sleep in tonight inside the shed, more fox proof than the hen house! As she seems happy free ranging now I'm leaving her to it and one of the cats is following her around for company (they play together..... I'm sure that's not how it's meant to work!!!). I'm keeping an eye on her "movements" just don't know how I can help get it out if it is broken egg in her, or if there is nothing I can do....?

You can't do any more at the mo, if she's up and about doing chicken things then I would think she's ok, just carry on doing what you're doing.  Hope she's ok

She seems a bit better today. Made some porridge for breakfast and that seemed to get her eating. I haven't seen her "go" yet today, but hopefully she is passing whatever was bothering her. The other rescue bird that came with her was looking for her first thing so have let her back out to play again and hopefully the other three won't bully her while I'm at work.
