Anyone have an ostrich ?

Anyone have an ostrich ?  Would that be practical on an allotment ? How much space would be needed?? Do tey make a noise? ??? :D :happy: :ohmy:

I think you'd have to have several allotments to have enough room for an ostrich!  :)  Not sure what the neighbours would say though!

They would need lots of space, much more than an allotment!
I believe they hiss, rather like an aggressive swan.
The egg shell is extremely hard, but an omelette for six or so can be made once you get it open.

A neighbour had a couple in his front garden - and it was probably allotment sized. It was a bit disconcerting walking or cycling by and an ostrich head would pop up over the hedge to peer down at you.  :lol:

A place on Anglesey rears and sells Rhea Hatching eggs  :ohmy: (They advertise in the poultry pages)  Which I think they are a smaller version ???

I might be wrong but I think you need a license for Ostriches but you don't for the Rheas ???

we used to have ostrichs kept in a feld near my horses years ago an by god they can be very evil birds , i would certainly never annoy one  :D :D  they kick better an harder then horses do .

the only way i would keep one was if i  owned a zoo an then they would have very experinced keepers  :lol: :lol: besides i am having enough trouble keeping up with my ex batts they can be complicated enough at times .
