We had a vast pyacantha on one side of our garden for years and it was abird nursery come cafe but eventually we cut it right back as we hardly had any sun --- it was about 20 ft tall --- vicious thorns too.
I like the choices you've made --I've never had a Garrya but droolover them every January as they look so good.
