asparagus!! quick question

hi guys and girls, had my asparagus delivered today,but am away friday will they keep for a week in there bag till i am back,bummer cant get down to lottie till back,the room they are in is cooll and dark!

A few days should not make much difference, but emphasis on the "cool" because you don't want them to start sprouting until they are planted  :)

what about if i put them into a pot and covered them in compost,am away 14th till 21st so it will nearly be 2 weeks to be honest, or would they start to go grow in there and be hard to seperate ,thanks

Ah - 2 weeks may be too long as there is also the risk of the roots drying out too.  In the past I have planted mine in pots and left them outside (preferably against the house wall so that they are less likely to be affected by any late frosts) until the bed is ready (in my case ... 12 months later, ahem) and they will be perfectly fine  ;)

Oh dear - have had mine in pots in compost in the garage - taking them up to plant today, so we shall see  :(  ???  :wacko:

The roots should be OK just kept somewhere cool for a couple of weeks. Undo the packaging so that the air can circulate or they might rot. If they get a bit dry put them in a bucket of water to soak before you plant them.
