Moulting - Should i be concerned???
« on: March 09, 2009, 16:57 »
Hi all, two of my hens have been moulting now for about 4/5 months and one of my new girls has just started moulting. All of them are moulting from there chest. Is this quite normal? How long does the process take, and should i be concerned at all?
All of there combs are a healthy red colour and they are all drinking and eating and laying still. Didnt know if they may have something else wrong as my new girl is only about 20+ weeks old. I always thought hens moulted after a year or so?
Thanks alot

Henrietta,
Could there be some pecking going on?
If it is moulting, offer your hens some fishy flavoured cat food for extra protien.
Good luck

THanks for that, i think the older girls may have pecked the new girl, but besides that the older two are really good friends so i dont think they are pecking each other as it is both. And would that be tinned cat food? As i have some salmon flavoured in my cupboard which i can give to them now for there supper!

Thanks hon  :)

Oops!  Yes, that should read fish flavoured "tinned" cat food.
