Peas, have I started too early?
« on: March 09, 2009, 14:26 »
I have a tray of peas needing potted up and some already in paper pots  they are about 6/8" tall and look like they desperately need to be put in the ground soon.

Given i'm in Glasgow and the weather is still pretty cold and more frosts likely, have I started them too early?

Rather than waste any more compost potting the ones in the tray up I have been considering scrapping them and starting again in a few weeks time, any advice would be much appreciated.
What if the Hokey Cokey IS what its all about...

My first peas were in the ground in the first week of Jan. Covered in snow for a week in the meantime. Doesn't it depend on the type of peas you are growing? My mains including the HSL trials, will be sown around mid month.

Thanx nobby, i'll give that a try.

Thanx too zazen, I just followed the instructions on the label and didn't quite think it through probably.

It does stress not to sow in cold wet conditions (thats Scotland all year round lol) They advise sowing from mid feb to late may and plant out when a couple of inches tall, no mention frost protection sooooo......

I think i'll maybe just pinch out the tops, put them out on the balcony and plant them in the ground this week.  If they don't take I've plenty more to put straight into the ground in a few weeks and i'll make a new entry in my big book of 'Lottie Lessons Learned'

Thanx for the responses
